Something Good for North Memphis

The neglected trashed lot in North Memphis got its first community garden oasis surgery on March 11, 2011. The trash in the park has been cleared, and the land has been leveled for a cost of $1,200. Placing a fence with a retaining wall in the front of the lot will complete the second phase of the development of the park. The property at 1147 Kney in the old Firestone community in North Memphis was purchased in February 2011 with the plans of transforming the lot into a community garden and heart disease prevention park. The park will feature an informative healthy lifestyle walk trail with plants, flowers, and citrus trees. Also, the park will have a stage for special events like health screening fairs, healthy meals demonstrations, and motivational speakers in the health field. The park will also provide a section where the neighbors in the community can grow and exchange vegetables in a co-op. The development welcomes donations from the private sector and government assistance on the local, state and federal levels for the development of park. The development of the park's goals will be a synergy effort working with the churches , the business and civic leadership in the Memphis,TN community, along with the neighborhood in the North Memphis community.
